Most of the members are talking about BFL ,GRAIN,TFL,CFLB,LCEY etc.But only few members have noticed the value of BROWNS . If someone could do a study comparing the PE of those stocks with Browns u will be socked. Just take the figures of BFL.

Share Price EPS(9 months) EPS(Annualised) PE

BFL 410 23.60 31.40 13
Browns 273 35.60 47.46 5.75

(some figures are rounded)
I think nobody has noticed the value of Browns. In my view it will go up very soon once the foreign investors start buying.

in the recent past they decided to invest in aggressively, also their plans are in the acceptable range, but my concern is they have business connected to the tea as well, thats why i also closely looking this share for sometime, but didn't touch because of wage issue

look at it this way for a net profit of 1.3bn they were taxed only 79mn generally income tax is around 20%(this figure maybe wrong) that should give you a general idea about how much operating profits they actually made

BRWN continue to produce better financials in successive quarterly reports, there is no doubt about their potential.
Diversified sector as well as Banking and Finance sector continue to produce steady improvement in EPS results. Especially BRWN, DIST, CFLB, SAMP and COMB could produce quarter on quarter improvement in financials. Their fundamentals are extremely good and it is possible for the investors to confidently rely upon their future growth potential

Some of the shares which need to keep an eye in diversified groups, tourism sector, transport and ports related PLCs. Are

BRWN, CONN,DIST,LFIN,DOCK,

HAYL,JKH,RCL,SAMP,SMLL,SPEN,

COMB,AHUN,LCEY,RHTL, and CFLB.

These are some of the businesses which could continue to produce expanding financials in the coming quarters and in forth coming annual reports.

Thanks mano. But you would probably know that Browns is a diversified Co. and they make profit from many sectors including investment in equity\. Therefore we should not worry about that. Only point is they manage their business well now and therefore we can expect a steady growth of the company which could influence the price of the share.

[quote="swarnasana"]Will Browns go up more?[/quote

share price appreciated more than 100% within 6,7 months & recently sold some HNB shares they had.

Browns may reinvest that money soon but generally speaking, I think browns would struggle to pass Rs300.00 in near future.

Did anyone notice that the big leap in BRWN profits was due to the decrease in minority interest. I suspect this is due to divesting 20% of its holdings in Free Lanka Capital holdings (FCHL)!
BRWN had invested in Maturata and Pussellawa plantations, HPFL through FCHL.
due to the reason explained above we cannot simply multiply the quarterly eps by 4 to calculate forward earnings.
As per the tax issue raised by MONO i suspect the effective tax rate is low due to profits from plantations and capital gains been tax free!

I personally think it is important to go by corporate financial performances. BRWN demonstrate a steady growth mainly based on financials all those so called rallies did not last long prices tend to came down after a peak. Those businesses like BRWN which came out with expected finals continue to show an upward movement. BRWN and CFLB continue to produce good results. I personally think about medium term investments rather than unsustainable rallies. BRWN is a steady well managed growing group of companies.

Their profit before tax for dec qtr is 1299m. The disposal value of Selan bank is 1241m as per the stmt made on Dec. 3rd. I dont have any idea how much of this 1241m would reflect in the Browns financials since the transaction had been made by Browns Investments.
Anyway it seems they haven't made significant operational profit for the period.

Total Tax for 2010 (audited)=120,203
Total Tax for 9 month ended 2010 =197,365
Expected Tax =197,365/3*4=263,153
YOY increase in Tax=263,153/120,203=2.18=218%
2010 EPS(audited)=14.30
projected rough eps based on tax=14.30*2.18=31.30 with a lot of assumptions Smile

Looks like if BRWN breaks the 300 barrier it can shoot up much more. Since the share had gone up a bit within the last few days, am also watching whether this will come down/stagnate or further up? Looking at the volume today it seems there is interest to go up further?

Any comments guy?

As it was discussed one by one break new grounds and display excellent financial reports. Remarkable growth in quarter on quarter results with brighter prospects for future expansion, CSE thrives on corporate results.
BRWN, CFLB , LCEY performing well. CONN has come out with excellent results. LFIN sparks many new developments. RCL and AHUN much better results. Keep an eye on JKH,SAMP, COMB and others.
