I was wondering why people suddenly started buying CDB even at a slight premium..

Rights Issue was in the cards, I speculated on it four days ago in this post:

Despite the obvious inside knowledge that lead to increased volumes yesterday, there was no run on it, so it'll be interesting to monitor share price and volume over the next few days. CDB has a bright future ahead, that's for certain.

This interest was created by only some brokers among there investors.
Eg: My broker Asha Phillip scratch

on 27th May 2011 , CDB went up to 109 !

What was interesting that day was the fact that it touched 109 and was about to hit a state of zero sell orders when someone dumped a large amount and brought it all the way back to 97 before closing.
