It just speaks loads of his character as a cricketer and lawful citizen of this country. He should be prevented from returning to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka should not win World Cup: Newspaper
Colombo, Feb 11 (PTI)

In a surprising move, a Sri Lankan newspaper today urged cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara to not win the World Cup, fearing it would help the controversial interim committee strengthen its position.

The privately-run but pro-government 'Island' newspaper said Sangakkara should not win the tournament for the "sake of the country.""Call me a traitor, a quisling -anything," said the paper's sports writer Russell Palipane.

"I don't want Sri Lanka to be the champions of the cricket World Cup 2011!"
Palipane argued that the current interim committee, which runs the game, will make use of a cup victory to consolidate its hold on office without facing elections.

"Just imagine what will take place if Sri Lanka emerge champs. D S de Silva (the current head of Sri Lanka Cricket) and his cronies who make up the Interim Committee will claim it was their doing."

The writer also took swipes at two other key cricket officials."Kumar (Sangakkara) dear, please spare the country. Don't win it, for the majority of this country are nothing but a pack of jokers, like that former Chairman of Selectors (Asantha de Mel), about whom Marvan Attapattu (former skipper) had a few things to say, before he retired from international cricket."

The 'Island' outburst comes amid attempts by Sri Lankan authorities to galvanise support for the national team for the biggest event of the game.Local radio and television stations have been adopting their own songs and video clips to shore up support for Sri Lanka, which won the trophy in 1996

Punishment for the truth. What are we going to do for the corrupted politicians? What sanga delivered is 100% truth. I think he has done the right thing at right venue. He had that guts to do that. He was not selfish.

@ Avinash...please read or listen to his speech before passing remarks...the problem with Sri Lanka is that the majority are ignorant cowards like you ,who dont have the guts to call a spade a spade.Well done Sanga,someone had to say it,for the betterment of the sport.

My friend, are you a Sri Lankan?? It sure doesn't look that way.

Why does one of the greatest players of our country and perhaps cricket itself get a ban just because he highlighted the corruption in our beloved cricket board. Did you read the entire speech or just what the papers said? if you didn't please read the entire speech from cricinfo.com or lords.org. What he said about corruption is only a tiny bit of the speech. He told the world about how cricket began in SL, about the great leaders and players of SL, how they faced the attack in Lahore and how proud he is to be a Sri Lankan etc etc.

btw, do you honestly think that the authorities will bat an eyelid if he said these things here ?

@ Avinash, Yes chase away the gentlmans like KS and keep your friends like MS,DS,MuthuH.
KS is a role l model to follow by the youngster. What a proud Sri Lankan.Im sure he will become the chairman of ICC next to Ranjan Madugalla as a Sri Lanka

Sanga talked the truth which is bitter for some people. If you listen to the full speech u will understand what was he trying to say. The period covered is from before 83 to date. No one can challenege single thing he said. One of the best I have ever heard from a Sri Lankan.

I cannot figure out as to how Sangakkara got his fake accent, after being born and lived in Sri Lanka most part of his life. How could one consider him to be a role model. May be he is a role model for those who follows Yankees, who eats pizza and drink coca cola. As a Sri Lankan at times I feel shy the way he uses his accent to address people and the way he uses broken sinhaleses to address Sri Lankans. If he values Sri Lankan culture, then he should first talk like a Sri Lankan and respect srilankan values.

Do not compare Sangakkra with gentlemen like Ranjan Madugalle, Anura Tennekoon or Micheal Tissera. Sangakkara is another Hansie Corngie in making. He might probably will have the same destiny.

What is your suggest ? Jail Sanga instead of corrupted people for his fake accent ? We all know these corruptions but any one of us talked like this ?
Sanga didn't criticized mother land. He criticized the terrorism and revealing how Sri Lankan families faced to the terrorism.
But he has criticized cricket board. Criticizing corrupted politicians is not criticizing the mother land. Most of the people get hurt when criticizing corrupted politicians.
Yet no committee to investigate corruptions by Mahindanada. But there is one for sanga

Welcome Sanga to CSE Well respected cricketer but small investors have to rely more on fundamentals and technical analysis. every one cannot play T20 and first traditional ODI then 20
