Hi can anyone tell me what is a money market accounts and is it better than buying treasury bills and government securities?

But you can withdraw funds from a Money Market Account easily without paying any penalty charges where you have to pay for early withdrawal of Government securities and T-Bills. Combank Money Market Rate is published on daily basis and interest will be calculate daily for the closing balance of the account. Interest will be credited to your account at the end of the month.

Money market accounts are generally used for keeping surplus funds for shorter durations. The interest rate quoted by Commercial Bank is currently 6.5% p.a, but this could vary from week to week.

In comparison, Treasury Bills would give you a return in excess of 7%.
