Private sector workers who have not received the recent salary hike of Rs. 2,500 can complain to six-member committee appointed by the Labour and Trade Union Ministry, a spokesperson said.
Senior Legal Adviser of the Labour Department P.S.Pathiratne chairs the committee.
The Labour and Trade Union Ministry has already received about 200 complaints relating to salaries (Act No 3 of 2016 and Act No. 4 of 2016).
The Spokesperson said that while many factories in Free Trade Zones (FTZ) have paid the salary increase, certain of the private sector companies had not.
He added that private sector companies must pay employees the salary increase of Rs. 2,500, the failure of which is a violation of the law, warranting legal action.
