ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lankan government has approved a deal in which China Merchants Port Holdings will operate the southern Hambantota port under a public-private partnership arrangement, a spokesman said.
The deal proposed by the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, and Ministry of Special Assignments based on a decision by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week.
The government is to enter into a framework agreement with China Merchants Port Holdings to develop Hambantota port, which was build by Chinese contractors with Chinese government loans.
