Mar 27, 2012 (LBT) - The bourse witnessed mixed sentiments during the day as heavy profit taking was seen on retail favourite counters. At the same time, accumulation continued on fundamentally strong value based counters mainly by institutions and high net worth’s.

The benchmark ASPI gained 5.12 points to close at 5,436 whilst the liquid MPI shed 9.70 points to close at 4,873. Total turnover for the day was over 578 mn (Approximately USD 4.4 million) Total volume traded was close to 30 mn shares. The only off the market deal was seen on manufacturing sector counter TJL as over 4mn shares changed hands at Rs.12.50. The transaction is believed to be an internal transfer as the deal took place at Rs.12.50 which is 60% above the market trading price. The counter gathered interest from retailers and traded attractive volumes and closed the day at Rs.7.50 gaining 1.35% for the day.

Continuos buying interest was seen on market heavyweight JKH as attractive volumes changed hands. The counter emerged as the top contributor for the day and contributed over 20% of the markets turnover. JKH went onto close the day at Rs.201 gaining marginally. Market leader in life insurance CINS continued to witness accumulation and traded over 38,000 shares contributing over 30mn towards the day’s turnover.

Further, value based counters such as HNB.X,BRWN,CARG and SPEN witnessed cautions institutional accumulation during the day. Retail activity saw mixed interest during the day as heavy profit taking took place during the latter half of trading. ERI and its warrants witnessed heavy selling pressure as opposed to the buying interest shown during the early hours. The counters closed marginally down as panic retail selling triggered.

In addition, volumes were topped by ATL,SEMB and MAL whilst HAPU emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.
