Softlogic Holdings (SHL)
I would like to restart the discussion about it. We talk lot about small companies like HVA. SHL has been edging up slowly, moreover , they are restructuring the group.
Shouldn't forget , SHL is now very well diversified conglomerate

Warning: I am long (small quantity) ,plan to take major exposure of my portfolio. 5-10%

Reason
  • Its trading close to NAV - assets are land & building, stocks & financials assets
    I
    • t had done lots of restructuring , reducing burden of debt and aligning its interest

    • Easing interest rates should support

    • Hospital business is going well

    • Financial services have had a bad patch, should be better in the future if not shouldn't be bad

    • Electronic & MV business - position neatral

    Only worry about hotels

I hold very few shares around 2k with a loss.
The loss made with early intervention but i kept collect 100 by 100 when it falls to 10.00.
still, i am collecting 100's and my target is to collect least 5k in 10-11 range.
I agree the most of the things you mentioned. i would like to gain 50% by next year by this share.
Personally i think SHL will be a good share in long run. (may be in 3-5 years.)

If you don't get upset, I suggest you to see SHL in 2-3 years time. This is my debut share and I got burnt my fingers. But now I have made up my mind to take care of this as long term. And I collect once the share hits low levels.
At the moment SHL is diversified to become the next JKH Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy .
It will take time, Mr. Ashok is a shrewd man and we are better to be patient.

yeah, that is the long run expectation but i feel how far it is fair to compare with JKH Very Happy
btw, I dont think we'll see real turn out in 2-3 years. i would say the real value will take least 5 years. Cool so i have many more time to collect it 100 by 100 cheers

SHL is a good long term investment, if you wish to get quick returns its better to buy another share. As a long term investment this would be great

From a street eye point of view, their retail expansion has been very aggressive. In the last two years they have opened a whole lot of retail outlets i Colombo and the suburbs. The Colombo rentals seems to be on pricey
rentals, I don't know about the provinces. As Abans has been struggling with their after sales service (an Abans directors wife told me that they now buy E goods from Singer as the Abans after sales wouldn't even response to their needs Very Happy ) I inquired from an entrepreneur in the industry as to how SL is coping and his opinion was that they are heading for a big mess.

This is only in relation to their E sales situ and its a layman's point of view.

Electronic, mainly relevant to white goods.

I think the recent large purchases were by Mr AP himself. He need to average what he bought over Rs 20+ too. Atleast he was with his company along the way.

With years to come with good managing, SHL can grow into a good conglomerate.

Some facts from the past :

Leaving aside the SHL earning issue now, we must not forget this is a heavy weight share that was overvalued and oversubscribed at RS 29. If it was good for promotion by JKSB as below

"John Keells Stock Brokers (JKSB) is recommending the Softlogic Holdings Ltd.’s Rs. 4 billion IPO as ‘subscribe.’ “At an issue price of Rs. 29, the counter trades at a P/Ex of 12.9x FY12E and 8.6x FY13E earnings which is a discount to peers despite offering superior near term earnings growth rates and exhibiting higher returns on equity. We recommend SUBSCRIBE,” JKSB said in a Research publication. "

then for long term , buying around Rs 10-11 is not bad if you trust the management.

SHL and EXPO showed us what lower PP and then selling to public at high does ( bad move) . SHL PP was at Rs 7.2 and sold to public at Rs 29! Lot of us mentioned this issue at that time.

But now the SHL is at a different level.
