@wallstreetguy: Now, that's one sensible long-term approach. If you find more companies with steady or rising dividend over the past 3 years (current yield exceeding 5%), please do share your findings with us... In addition to maalinda's list, DFCC comes to mind - but I don't know how consistent they have been...

we should look for stocks with high dividend yield, b'cos even if a stock like NEST give a 20/- dividend it's share prices very high 600+, so less return %.
We should look for stocks with higher % of dividend gain. One stock could be JINS. low cost, and they gave 2/- last year, 1/- this year so far, some times it would be higher than the FD interest rate,

When we look at history, stocks with larger family holdings or foreign holdings give higher dividend rates, b'cos they want to drag large amount of the profit to their pocket or mother company, eg, JINS, NEST, CTC, AVIVA-NDB

OFEQ is the best when it comes to dividends. But buy at least 100 shares is virtually impossible. I had been trying more than two years but was not end up successfully. Tried buying the shares at a premium but no sellers. Sad

So the current market LLUB pays quite reasonable & constant dividend yield.

Overall I'm quite happy to see people start thinking about dividends.. Small investors go mad about rallies..

UKboy - thanks for telling abt this stock. I never heard abt this stock before and I see it hasn't been traded for a loooong time now. why would they sell when it has such high dividend yield and an excellent NAVPS.
but i noticed from the recent statement that it has incurred a very high administrative cost and that has resulted in a loss. wonder what that is.

Hey guys just a few issues i would like it if someone could clarify it.. well it could be slightly irrelevant but...

Nestle and LLUB specially pay very high Dividends is this to send there profits abroad as there main shareholders are in other countries...

Also how come both these componies operate with no long term liabilities on there balance sheet... no long term borrowings... even other financially strong companies do have an element of long term debt...

just a few strange observations.. if someone could help! Smile

There is nothing like that. On a dividend announcement there is a XD date. If you have the share on or before XD date you are eligible to have the dividends. It could be years after you bought the shares or days.

not only good dividends, generally, share prices also appreciate gradually due to earnings in shares with good dividends.

Can you please let me know one good reason why we do not need to hold shares for dividends?
I have LLUB shares which I bought over a year ago and already I recieved more than 10% of my capital as dividends. If im desperate I can sell my shares with more than 20% profits.
There are some companies give you just one off dividends but it does not say dividends are meaning less.

I cannt agree what you said " dont hold stocks for dividends"
It is much better than buying shares at peak and keep moarning....

If one really wants to buy stocks for dividends then CFVF is the one to buy. Last year they gave out 15 rps as dividends out of the 16 EPS. This year they have a EPS of 10.There is a chance that they announce a dividend this year also because they have very less reinvestment options.
