Several institutions including the Sri Lanka Central Bank and the Securities & Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka which were under the purview of the Finance Ministry so far have been brought under the purview of the new government’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is also in charge of the Policy Planning & Economic Affairs, Child, Youth & Cultural Affairs Ministries.
Accordingly, this time the Public Utilities Commission, Credit Information Bureau, the Employees Trust Fund and the National Insurance Trust Fund too comes under this Ministry.
Apart from them, though so far the Department of External Resources which handles foreign loan issues had been under the Finance Ministry, it is significant that under the new government this department too has been entrusted with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Policy Studies is also under the purview of the Policy Planning & Economic Affairs, Child, Youth & Cultural Affairs Ministry with Dr. Harsha de Silva as its Deputy Minister.
