The Senior Adviser to the President has told state-run Dinamina that the World Health Organization (WHO) is providing vaccines to Sri Lanka against the COVID-19 virus within a legal framework.
He said that the responsibility for the vaccine would not be borne by the company that manufactured it and that he was currently looking into all possible alternatives to obtain the vaccine.
Mr. Lalith Weeratunga has been entrusted with the task of coordinating the importation of the vaccine against the COVID 19 virus in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, he is in charge of all vaccination activities as per the decision of the COVID Suppression Task Force which meets daily under the chairmanship of the President regarding the Covid epidemic.
In addition, the committee is tasked with deciding which groups should be vaccinated first.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has agreed to provide about 4.2 million vaccines to Sri Lanka to vaccinate about 20 percent of Sri Lanka's population, according to the Sri Lankan Health authorities.
