I don't know whether we have more than average financial companies in this country but it's true that a lot of middle class people don't know and don't care about investing.
There are not enough encouragement from anyone to the general public to save and invest.(Excluding banks and finance companies, which is actually not investing but only saving).
Then there's the risk. A lot of people don't like risk and only few has the ability and discipline to face and manage risk.
As a country, we have a long way to go in this regard and we haven't even started. We even have several communist parties(which I personally and whole heartadly hate) in the country.

They are like mushrooms popping up in every corner.
To survive they may have to under cut each other and break all rules and regulations and finally put all depositors in a mess.

I hope these mini financial institutes will oneday take over by Banks or large institutes

Too much competition is not good for any sector development. This is one of the main reasons why we are struggling to go for foreign financial markets.

Sri Lanka (of course) land like no other..! We always like to do what others do. same applies in financial sector.
