In couple of years time we could see ghost towns.

Reasons for your conclusion??

How often you have passes though H.tota?, many people are going there to pass through to Kataragama. H.port for next 10years will operate as more like a bunkering port and reshipment port which has very little to do with greater economy and community. Do you envisage a mass migration to that part of country?

After the games all these infrastructure will be idling without much use. Same applies to other forms of infrastructure as well, I cant see people travelling all the way from colombo to participate in a conference in H.tota new conference hall, except occasionally. This is too much to waste for a country like SL.

This is the time to build all these infrustructure before its been crowded, there are enough lands for that. We need a second well prepared city in SL after Colombo,Htotoa is ideal for that, its location and vast empty land reserves. First pahse of southern high way is almost completed second phase will connect to the Mathara, it will reduce the time to travel. Htota airport will also be in place in few years. Southern is been our heart. Most of ppl who are dominating in every field are now are from southern. Take business community, most of them form Southern.

Htota port is a good beginning even if it takes 100 year to fully function. you know all these mega projects were only for talking nothing happened, Upper kotmale, Norochchole, and Htota port are good examples. I personally feel comport to have all these mega projects in Southern instead of East. this is not racism but now the sihals community in Colombo has been reduced to 40%. East is already well developed, i had visit last month, all roads and most of the infrastructure is in sound position. there are some parts in east where we feel like traveling on a road in a middle east country.

ppl will flock when there are enough facilities for sure. wait and see another 2-3 years and then we can speak with evidences

This is the senario that should happen, if that happens like that good for all.
Not agreed,.Hambantota is too hot and dry.,drinking water quality is very poor.,If there is a second commercial city like colombo it should be some where else but not Hambantota.Cities like kandy Galle, Kegalle needs resources as well

Just imagine the construction of H.port, it was one of the largest investments in the past few years, but was it felt in to the country. It was pretty alienated phinomina, same could happen to Games as well.

So, let us develop Htota as a sport city, where we can have all the facilities in once place, instead of building everything in this jam packed Colombo. what ever we say or done, real talents are not in Colombo but outside.this will give those ppl good opportunity, facilities to sharpen their inborn talents. I am very optimistic that this will be a good investment for the sport of SL.

All these cities you are talking about are already crowded, so it needs extra expenses to compensate ppl living in those areas but in Htota, there are well reserved empty lands available. if heat is a factor, Middle east countries have vanished a long back. water can be purified once everything is set. why dont we give a chance for southern region, its playing very important part beneath.

I dont think we can compare with the Middle East. Due they have good money infrastructre is devlop though country climate is heat. H'tota devlop is fine, but same way they have to think about other cities devlopment also.

I bet big hotels will not go to H tota.,only for the reason of commonwealth games.,After the games who will go to Humbantotta for a holiday??To get burnt by the sun??
It is foolish thing to compare humbantota with some middle eastern country..Those countries has no options but w do..

Middle eastern countries have thrown so much money at the infrastructure. please don't even compare the amount of money that these countries throw at developing the environment with SL.

Most of westerners are coming here to get that extra bit of heat and the sunshine. we got nice beaches those area too. we got most of big hotels in Colombo and dambulla, this is a good alternative, most of other hotels in south are 4 star hotels.its not too far after road network is built. heat in Htota or any where in SL doesnt pass 40c. we have to find out alternations to reduce the jam in the main city. Htota got an international port and an international airport is coming up so big hotels are must. recently we could successfully completed the 1st south Asian beach game. heat is too high in those south Asian countries when compare with Htota.

It is true that some countries struggled after hosting Olympics and other major events.Ex.Greece after Athens Olympics. But commonwealth games is not that big and countries like us had already hosted it successfully . Although games itself would be a lost directly, how many areas would it help to develop.Specially for a country like us what we desperately need is a good image and good impact among other countries. It would help to develop the image in Hambanthota which hopefully be a major harbour in the country as well as in sub-continent. like or not we have spent lot of money constructing that harbour and no way return.
So climate and drinking water is nothing comparing big picture.

yea, we have to see the big picture not the corners of the picture and criticize.
