Atlas secures enjoining order against Araliya Book Industries

Atlas has secured an enjoining order from the Judge of High Court of the Western Province, Gamini Amarasekera against Araliya Book Industries for abusing the Atlas trademark and brand name, the stationery manufacturer said last week.

Atlas sought the order after an action instituted against Araliya Book Industries under the charges of logo copyright violation. “The Araliya logo shadowed the exact branding of Atlas imitating the look and feel, except the pronunciation. Atlas received the trademark status for its current version of the Atlas brand in the 2003,” the company said.

Despite accepting the copyright infringement following a letter of demand, Araliya Book Industries continued to manufacture books containing the Atlas lookalike logo, it said. Atlas recently obtained the exclusive licence to publish images of several popular children’s cartoon characters and superheroes on its range of stationery products including images of Marvel Superheroes, Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man the First Avenger and the ever popular Spiderman. The company also obtained rights for the Ben 10 range of images, including Ben 10, Ben 10 Alien Force and Ben 10 Ultimate, as well as children’s cartoon The Power puff Girls.
