The market has been dropping for past few days. SEYB right announcement came at a bad timing. So the drop was with th trend. WHo know if the market bounces back a bit tomorrow it might go up a again. We have to identify the consilidation point.
Bit too early to do that yet as today is bloody.

I am a small investor. I purchased 2000 shares @49 in January this year. Then I purchased another 3000 shares at 41/-. Guys, what do think? I have holding power. Do you think I have made a bad decision?

Guys whats happening with SEYB? I managed to avg my cost to 42.90 LKR. Thats the best i could do at this time. What about you guys? Day by day R is becoming non attractive... 35LKR is not a huge discount when thinking about the current state of the N price.

It's becoming a bit of a worry. I also bought in at 40 thinking the price is attractive, but it does look like this will become another LITE, OSEA or CRL

What i cant understand is if they wanted some cash in, why should they pay a dividend. Its like giving 1LKR n asking 11.60LKR back.

With the oncoming dividend at end of march, a person who buys at seyb.x at Rs.40 has even an option to forgo the rights, and let it expire or even sell it cheap. he can then wait for share price to pickup, because the dilution would make the share price to be around 42.50 from 45 ( If all rights are subscribed, which I am not sure will happen)when it was announced. A person with holding power has much to gain.

I dont know if my observation is correct. Experts please feel free to correct me.

For the right issue to be successful, both N and X should go up close to the XR date. If that is not happened, SEYB will fail. I don't think the bank will fail and so somehow shares has to go up.

You can sell rights. There are two interesting discussions happening right now about WAPO and MARA rights.

Yes you can sell your rights too once you get them listed at CSE through your broker

Lets not give up just yet mate. When Union bank comes out let see the reaction on other bank shares. Also I see there are many panic sellers due to greater public holding. When these guys goes away ...Anything can happen at CSE .

I am having shares with I bought around RS 48 . I have to say this was poor timing for a Right issue. I am saying not about the RIghts issue itself but to time it when the market was down in the finance and banking sector. They could have picked a better time.

This is Bank with lot of Institutional and public interest. Lets hope for the best. Anything can ahppen at CSE.

I wonder as the seyb.x is held 100% by retailers, how many of them know that the rights can be sold? maybe most of them think they have to ultimately fork out the extra cash and they panicked....?

Thanks SLStock, Max for your comments. Definitely bad timing for a rights issue. I am pretty sure that the bank will somehow or other manage to get the rights subscribed to. They will probably persuade financial institutions sympathetic to their cause to take up the slack. Still it wouldn't solve our problem. I don't think the rights can be sold easily in this market.

What's interesting though is that OSEA, LITE and CRL which all had the same issue went up after the rights issue was completed. So there is no need to sell this at a loss (yet)

I too hold SEYB.X and have increased it too. it was worrying to see it drop further today.
but
it has already dropped more than 20% now. This definitely is a discount. Further, look at the gap between N & X. Attractive isn't it? Smile
if you are collecting, don't do it with all your money. save enough for the rights

Thanks for highlighting something that seemed to have escaped most people's attention (or was it just mine?)

I guess all the government controlled funds in that top share holders list will be taking up the rights alloted to them. Since SEYB is a bank, the central bank is sure to use it's influence on those funds. Heck the number 2 shareholder is BoC.

But the interesting question is what some of the other shareholders, most notably the companies in the ceylinco group who are sure to be short of cash will do.
