Twelve young women from Sinhala and Tamil families affected by the conflict and natural disaster in Trincomalee district last week opened their Batik centre and showroom which was opened last week in Abeyapura along the Trincomalee-Kandy highway.
The group was recruited under the Self Help Group scheme by a Colombo based non-governmental organization called OfEER Ceylon. Many of the customers who patronize the newly opened. Udaya Batik Centre are government servants. Local agents are also placing orders for the produce on behalf of overseas customers, OfEER sources said. The centre and the showroom are housed in a building owned by the OfEER Ceylon.
