Price band is not effective. It doesn't matter it's there or not. Its effect will be minimal. Anyway there will be another control system as the same thing but with another name.
If yet again for the X time 'good news' carrot would drive the panic buyers, how many days will it last?
Already we have broker credit since last August.

Yes I agree the news can only drive the market possibly short term (if the current trend continues.)

For the market to have positive and sustainable trend, much more money ( funds and big investors) has to come to market and start buying consistently.

Market sentiment is such that any positive news will be short lived because of the selling pressures that will enter as the market moves up. This market has burnt so many investors that their horizons and scopes are too short termed. They will sell out quickly with small profits.

Compare this to bull market sentiment where everybody bought, held and believed that the market would continue to move up. Now its the opposite...

What's going on? more and more people are beginning to sound like bears. Only two weeks back everyone was saying the market will jump up with new positive moves by the SEC. So now why is everyone saying the exact opposite? Has there been a news leak about what the SEC is really going to do? Please share.

Well it not about being a bull or bear. I still think market has selected attractive bargains for the investor.

But what we are talking about is investor confidence right now which is at a low . Market is lethargic trying to find direction with many having selling mentality than buying. Even with an announcement and a probable uptrend, the question is will the trend sustain if people start selling again. Like Raa said if people start selling with marginal upward movement and comparatively there is more selling pressure than buying then the prices will start coming down again.

Thats why I said
"For the market to have positive and sustainable trend, much more money ( funds and big investors) has to come to market and start buying consistently." This is to boost investor confidence also to continue buying trend to make prices move.

We badly need a mentality shift and consistent large buying over several days for a positive market and confidence to come back.

It's not investor confidence. It's the worth that counts. You have to see whether it's worth the price. Whether the companies can show growth for the price you pay today. 5 - 8% core business growth or minus growth in the core business is dismal. The immense price appreciation of the shares in the last two years the companies have to show massive profits in their operations no in the land values or portfolio values.

Well yes there are many shares like you mention.

But out of the 200+ companies do you not find any company that has growth potential with less or no value inflations added such as property/portfolio revaluations? I am not sure whether people are not collecting anything now as all companies are not worth or there are other reasons.

Some attractive to market shares can move on their own ( without a whole market uptrend) if sufficient interest ( maybe with some help from a "big boy" ) comes in at any time.

Right now I see everybody is cautious to buy as the market has no direction and is negative.

Yes slstock. Some people think all the listed companies are not worth at the moment.
They are too pessimistic (extreme bears) . I have identified such persons here and I event don’t look at their useless post.

It shows the gravity of lack of investers confidence which is a real bad sign. But mostly this group consists of retail investers. So as slstock has mentioned if big players come in to the action market can go up.......

IF EPF was managed properly, this would have been the ideal time it to enter. That would have boost the market and investor confidence.
But, EPF has been buying shares at the top and say "going to keep them for 5 yrs"
What they should be doing is buying them at the bottom (like now).
