Market is going down day by day. I think SEC should introduce Short selling to CSE. Then at least investors can earn something from a bear market as well.

What you guys say?

I read somewhere that the current system CSE got is not designed to support short selling. But the new system that they will implement soon will have those facilities it seems.

DVP will enable short selling automatically, perhaps that's the real reason that the brokers got together to get rid of Cader and Sugathadasi for DVP was on the top of their agenda

Before CSE introduces short selling free/public float in the market should be increased significantly. You may see companies listed in the CSE having a free float of less than 20 %.... in some cases even lesser than that. That is dangerous to the short selling. Because, in a situation where short positions increasing and free float decreasing, the stock prices may reach to a level that you cannot afford to close your short position.

If I'm right, loss in a long position limited to investors' initial cost but in the case of short positions unlimited Smile

In the present market situation (very low confidence level) if we have short selling, it will just take few days for ASI to reach below 5000 level Smile

...and then the short sellers will have to square up their positions; surely, buying will re-emerge at some point. The green on the screen will be as welcome as leaves after a cold winter.

This decline that we are facing is like slow death, with our computer screens as red as blood dripping away... Waiting for credit or foreign buying or EPF or whatever to give us life support...
