The Kuwait authority yesterday announced the prohibition of all poultry, eggs, and chicks from Sri Lanka due to the emergence of bird-flu cases in that country.

In a press statement, the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAFA) also affirmed the prohibition of importing poultry, eggs, and chicks from Australia due to reports, issued by World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), which revealed the emergence of the same pandemic.

On the other hand, the statement pointed out that PAAFR decided to lift the prohibition on importing falcons, ornamental birds, eggs, and chicks from the Netherlands in accordance with WOAH reports that affirmed the country’s status as disease-free. (KUNA)

It won't be a major effect to our poultry sector. I am in Kuwait for the last 5 years. However, I never seen a poultry product from our country in hypermarkets. Mostly poultry products are imported from Brazil and Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.

Do they really import Poultry stuff to Kuwait. Also is there a Bird Flu?? I thought authorities cleared it up saying Bingiriya case was not the bird flu virus.

Monster also says he has not seen Sri Lankan poultry products in Kuwait.

Hmm, do you sense something funny.

ps : Let us not argue about poultry ok as some hate it some love it. I am just talking about how these rumors can spread negative thoughts.

This is funny. There's a post by market watch in the sri lanka poultry forum that sodium bichuate enhances resistence in chicken. Smile I thought that forum was about investing not chilcken farming.
Any what is important is not whether Kuwait imports Lankan chicken. It's just a routine notice by any country when they find meat products are risky. Other countries must have updated lists like this according to the prevailing risk levels. And most probably Sri Lanka may not have such monitoring mechanisms and after some decease comes in ministry will say everything is under control even when loads of animals die.
