Overall market perception was low "as investors struggled to adopt the trading system which has not been user-friendly. With lot size reduced from 100 to 1 and the elimination of the odd lot board the rational and fair thing to do was the immediate removal of all minimum charges including those on custodial accounts. However this was not done and as a result the effective transaction costs have gone up disproportionately. There was divided opinion on the success or otherwise of the new automated trading system installed recently at the Colombo Stock Exchange with some brokers praising the system while others expressed a different viewpoint. The average investor is being crushed by short-term market gyrations and has been essentially cut off from funding that should otherwise be moving through the system like greased lightning. Of course there are plenty of challenges, and more are likely to be on the way real soon. The free markets and common sense beg us to flee to safety. However, that's not to say there will not be any speed bumps on the road to prosperity.
Good luck and safe trading!
