perhaps japanese effect?
last year their ship repairing business was completely down but managed to compensate by ship building and another thing i read is that existing docks too small for large modern ships

Agree its docks are not big enough to manufacture large vessels.

But no one can compete with Chinese & Korean ship builders in this sector. Both are powerhouses in large vessels manufacturing. Specailly Koreans, I dont think anyone can compete with them. Its like some one trying to compete with Boeing or Airbus in large commercial aircraft sector.

We have to fight for the small to medium vessels market.

Question to ask is whether it is performing well within limitations and potential? We should not compare with what is out of reach at this moment. With growth it can later happen. Also I heard a talk about expansion to other ports. This company is an assert to Sri Lanka as it bring in lot of foreign money. It is gaining international recognization specially in this region. ( India, Singapore etc) . Their ship repair brings in more percentage profit than ship building. Even with lesser repair last year this performed satisfactorily. With more shipping happening with port expansions there is a bright future.

I think what we are seeing with DOCK is just panic sellers. Probably credit clearing coupled by the misconception that their business is down as reported in the newspapers. Yes, their traditional business of ship repair is down, yes they have lost their single biggest customer (the Shipping Corporation of India), whose new vessels cannot be accommodated in the dry docks. But they have moved into ship building to make up for that loss in business and they have chosen a few niche markets so that they don't have to compete with Korean and Chinese ship builders on price. So they are on an even keel.

I would say if you have it don't sell. If you don't have it, don't buy just yet. Wait till the market bottoms out.
