The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is to issue its formal response to the economic and banking sector concerns highlighted by the global rating agency, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services in its assessment released yesterday. The rating agency gave Sri Lanka a score of '8' on a scale where the highest risk in 10, for in a Banking Industry Country Risk Assessment (BICRA), placing the island alongside countries like Nigeria, Tunisia, and Kazakhstan.
"We will issue a formal response to their report today. I wont be able to say anything beyond that at the moment," CBSL Governor, Ajith Nivard Cabraal told The Nation when asked for an opinion.
When asked whether the banking regulator would tackle each of the concerns highlighted, the governor said that they would in fact attempt to do so but then their response would take a little more time.
"The analysts who have written the report must have a taken a lot of time preparing it. Therefore, I think you should give us also more time to submit a proper response," Governor Cabraal said.
