I like OGL, but now i don't like it because it has the same management as PCH.

I have first hand experience being cheated by PCH rogues. About 6 years ago, I ordered a PC which I asked them to assemble based on my own list of components/brands. When I got it, the components/brands were totally different and of cheaper quality. This is in spite of them mentioning the correct components/models/brands (as per my order) in their invoice to me. Then, instead of replacing the inferior components with the ones that I had ordered, they asked me to pay approx. Rs. 20,000 more if I wanted the better quality ones (for which they had charged me in any case!!!!).

Also, when the UPS packed up (after warranty), I took it to them for replacement of the battery. They charged me for a new battery and returned the UPS to me. When it did not work as expected, I took it back and got it opened in front of me and found out that the replaced battery was not a new one but an old one. Then they claimed that I had replaced the battery on my own !!!

I also bought a laptop from them (original Compaq) on the same day. Within a couple of days, the power pack did not work so I took it back to them and they claimed that the laptop and power pack was not something that they sold to me !!!!!!!!!!!! Only when we showed them the bill (which had the serial numbers mentioned on it) did they agree to replace the item.

The way these guys try to hoodwink customers at every turn is simply amazing. Any other company would have had to close down by now but somehow they are surviving. I really wonder how ????? Maybe their modus operandi is to spread the blame over the vast number of companies that operate under their umbrella (i.e. a majority of shops at Unity Plaza are theirs but run under various other companies).

Everyone that has purchased something from PC House (that I have spoken to) has had very similar experiences.

PCH affiliated companies should be evaluated by independent body to ascertain whether the group could be in CSE or not.

IMHO this group should be de listed from CSE.

See the reality is; even Softlogic sells Notebook and some selected PC accessories which even PCH would sell (I mean similar brands) but why PCH is the most no of equipment seller in SL? We would wonder why a company with a bad sales attitude (personal Experiences + what gathered from the crowd @ various sources, etc..) could still manage to command the market price?? How they give it cheaper than others?

As per my tiny knowledge, what PCH does is; they buy is massive qtys and sell with a low margin.
Apart from the aforesaid, I heard even they bring QC failed equipment (You might have seen the QC sticker on PC mother-boards most of the time) and sell cheaper in the market.
This is what I heard.. But going thru the hassle of claiming warranty for a such, I tend to believe this mal practice as it takes 2-4 months to get your one repaired or replaced. If its a replacement, inspect carefully and you would figure out the new one is also a repaired one rather than a genuine 1:1 replacement.

So any other seller would not be able to meet their price tags due to this. Their bottom line might grow slow due to lower margins but qty would add up the sales in numbers that would eventually bring the revenues up.

When a company go for an investment in massive scale, it must have a large cash balance in their hands and a holding power of 2-3 year for a ROI.. In these times they must meet their capital requirements in order to finance the salaries of the employees too, which I think is not very easy due to the high living cost involved in these days. Therefore; a company come out with such an investment is hardly to come by IMO.

It is important that you educate the first time computer users, your aunt and uncle, little cousin to stay away from pc house. You and I know but the general public does not know and go there and get robbed as we don't have working consumer protection mechanisms in Sri Lanka.

The only occasion I bought something from Unity other than the shop I frequent now (do not want to advertise) was a motherboard more than a year ago from a small shop since I was in a hurry on a holiday. Don't know it's name nor do I know if it is part of PCH.

Only time I went to the 9-9 store was to check it out and bought an ink cartridge. The sales rep were not so friendly when I inquired about other products. It took the cashier more than 10 minutes to prepare the bill (during which time I wrote on the customer feedback). That was the last time I stepped in.

Since you cant check their warranty stickers, I think the best way is to ask the shop you visit who provides the warranty, is it PCH or not...
The simplest question would be "Where should I go to make a warranty claim?" Twisted Evil

If you notice some shops, the young guys who are the salesmen casually walk in and out of other shops having a chat here n there. Sometimes they bring the stuff from another shop as well.

Once I was shopping for a VGA card long time back when a guy showed a card and recommended. Since we needed one in a hurry (again Wink) we considered that and opened the box. We saw the card without its antistatic cover and any documentation. He said they give 3 years warranty so don't worry. Then I showed a dent in the metal part of the card and said "isn't this physical damage already" (anyway it was obvious that it wasn't a new card)
He said, "no problem 3 yr warranty" Very Happy
suddenly another guy came in and took the box and told him "mae ape kade ekak" and left
Very Happy

Even before the IPO announcement came for PCH people started blaggarding them for their unethical prctices. Then NDBB who were the issuers involved in covering them up in Invstors.lk.

What are the Board of Directors doing. Has Rishan tied them up with Money. its very much evident what is the link between NDBB becos one of PCH director also a director of NDBB.

http://www.thebottomline.lk/2010/07/11/page9.html.....Sarath Wickremanayake, a renowned banker and a chartered accountant by profession, brings years of experience in banking and marketing to strengthen the PCH’s finance aspects. He serves as the CEO of PCH’s Greenwich Lanka Private Limited and on several boards including that of the National Development Bank PLC and Aviva NDB Insurance PLC...

Bringing 25 years of experience as a Management Consultant and Corporate trainer, Modarage Thilakasiri is to contribute specifically to the HR development platform. Currently serving as the head of the School of Postgraduate Studies at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Thilakasiri also serves as a senior visiting lecturer in business administration at the universities of Colombo, Moratuwa, Kelaniya and Sri Jayawardenapura...
Dont know waht finally thilaksiri has done with his what hes best at.

I think SEC should black list these people of being directors, becos they help to breed sick ridden companies in CSE
