Popularly referred to as cloud computing, these data centres also lower the price of handling and maintaining physical data storage centres.
“A cloud based computing model delivers faster, more efficient services at a lower cost than traditional data centre models,” Kavinda Mahawedage, Head of Marketing at Just In time Technologies told reporters on Wednesday.
“We are talking to government departments, banks, financial services, telecoms, companies running large scale data centres, companies deploying ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems, to switch to an integrated cloud system,” Mahawedage said.
Software and IT solutions provider, Just In Time Technologies has partnered with US-based Virtual Computing Company (VCE) to market a single rack data storage system that promises to trim costs by as much as 70 percent.
“There is a lot of interest from Sri Lankan firms for our product, we haven’t secured any firm orders yet, its still early stages, we just launched it here,” Paul O’Connor Director Channels at VCE told reporters in Colombo.
US-based VCE, was formed by Cisco and EMC with investments from VMware and Intel, to build a common infrastructure platform to help cloud-based computing models.
The company’s Vblock platform, delivers the industry's first completely integrated IT offering with end-to-end vendor accountability.
VCE’s Mathew Tilley said the Vblock is assembled overseas, customised to client specification and airlifted to the location. “We can deploy things within three-days.”
“The Vblock, allows customers to focus on business innovation instead of integrating, validating and managing IT infrastructure,” said Chrishan Mendis, Chief Executive Just In Time Technologies.
