Indices and turnover down

The downturn on the Colombo bourse continued yesterday with all three indices down – the All Share by 21.97 points (0.44%), Milanka by 15.39 points (0.35%) and S&P by 11.92 points (0.22%) on a turnover of Rs.332.7 million, down from the previous day’s Rs.378 million, with 59 gainers strongly outpaced by 135 losers.

Brokers said that turnover in a lackluster day was supported by a crossing of 7.5 million Dialog at Rs.6.20 in a deal worth Rs.46.5 million.

Separately, over 6.2 million Dialog closed flat at Rs.6.20 on the trading floor trading between Rs.6.10 and Rs.6.20 generating a turnover of Rs.38.6 million. Brokers said that there were several large parcels among the quantities done on the trading floor.

Lanka Lubricants saw further activity closing 60 cents down at Rs.170 on over 0.3 million shares traded between Rs.168 and Rs.170 generating the day’s top turnover of Rs.55.3 million.

Interest on Commercial Bank (both voting and non-voting) continued with the non-voting share up 40 cents to Rs.74 on nearly 0.4 million shares done between Rs.73 and Rs.74 contributing Rs.26.8 million to business volumes.

The voting share edged down 20 cents to Rs.98 on 50,909 shares done between Rs.97.70 and Rs.98.10.

Among the blue chips that saw quantity and price gains were Nestle up Rs.26.60 to Rs.1,200 on 21,210 shares, Carson’s up Rs.1.30 to Rs.464 on 38,318 shares and DFCC up Rs.4.70 to Rs.110 on over 0.1 million shares.

Richard Pieris up 20 cents to Rs.6.80 on 0.7 million shares, Keells Hotels closing flat at Rs.12 on nearly 0.7 million shares, PC House down 50 cents to Rs.13 on 0.4 million shares and HVA down 60 cents to Rs.11.40 on nearly 0.4 million shares were the other counters demonstrating volume.

Lanka Walltiles announced a final dividend of Rs.3 per share for 2011/2012 with dates to be notified.

Carson’s announced that it has redeemed 5.5 million Class B non-voting redeemable unlisted cumulative preference shares held by DFCC Bank at Rs.10 per share on June 30.
