Activity was seen on selected counters with few blue- chips showing renewed activity. A parcel of 3.7 million shares of Kelani Tyres changed hands at Rs. 25.80 which amounts to roughly 4.6% of the stated capital of the said company. Another parcel of Sampath Bank changed hands bringing in Rs. 23 million.
ASI gained marginally by 3.67 points (0.08%) to close at 4.872.06, MPI lost 9.78 points (0.23%) to close at 4,312.46 and the S&P index gained by 4.79 points to close at 2,780.34. Turnover was Rs. 337 million.
Turnover was driven by Kelani Tyres with Rs. 95.5 million, Sampath Bank with Rs. 25 million and John Keells Holdings with Rs. 27 million. Notable gainers for the day were Laughfs Gas non-voting up by 10% to close at Rs. 14.20 driven by the announcement of a dividend worth Rs. 1.50 per share, Capital Alliance Finance up by 9% to close at Rs. 24 and PC Pharma up by 6.67% o lcose at Rs. 12.80.
Meanwhile, notable losers for the day were Eastern Merchants down by 9% to close at Rs. 10, Seylan Bank non-voting down by 3.23% to close at Rs. 24 and Lanka Tiles down by 2.44% to close at Rs. 60. Most active counters for the day were Laufghs Gas voting and non-voting followed by HVA Foods. Foreign participation was 46% and net outflow was Rs. 12.6 million.
