The Colombo bourse yesterday continued its lackluster mode posting a turnover of Rs.336.7 million, up from the previous day’s Rs.269 million, with the indices closing in opposite directions – the All Share edging up a marginal 3.67 points (0.08%) and the S&P gaining 4.79 points (0.17%) while the Milanka was down 9.78 points (0.23%) with 105 gainers outpacing 77 losers while 120 counters closed flat.
Turnover was buoyed by a block trade of 3.7 million Kelani Tyres at a price of Rs.25.80 in a deal worth Rs.95.5 million and 153,483 Sampath at Rs.150.10 in a transaction valued at Rs.23 million.
Brokers said that JKH saw some volume with over 150,000 shares traded between Rs.180.20 and Rs.183 although the counter closed Rs.2 down at Rs.180.50.
There was interest in Laugfs Gas which announced a first and final dividend of Rs.1.50 per share for 2011/12 XD from July 23 with payment on August 2. Nearly 1.7 million Laughs Gas (non-voting) was done between Rs.12.60 and Rs.14.30 closing Rs.1.30 up at Rs.14.20 generating a turnover of Rs.23.1 million.
Among the blue chips that showed some volume, Carsons saw 48,103 shares done between Rs.461 and Rs.464 closing a rupee down at Rs.463.10 while the NDB closed a rupee up at Rs.100 on nearly 0.2 million shares done between Rs.98 and Rs.102. Asian Hotels closed 30 cents down at Rs.73.60 on 0.1 million shares done between Rs.73.50 and Rs.73.60.
Commercial Bank (non-voting) closed 90 cents up at Rs.75 on 93,657 shares while Laugfs Gas (voting) gained 70 cents to close at Rs.21 on 0.2 million shares done between Rs.19.80 and Rs.21.40.
