Aug 03, 2012 (LBT) - The bourse took a turn on the final trading day to end the week in red mainly owing to price dips in market heavy caps such as Carsons and Bukith Darah. The counters shed 2.74% and 4.39% respectively after their quarterly financials showed significant dips in profits. The benchmark index shed 28.56 points to close at 4,931 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 14.91 points to close at 4,380. Total turnover for the day was over 308mn. (Approximately USD 2.3 million) Total volume traded was 11.5K.

Two block trades were witnessed during the which helped to boost turnover levels. The two trades collectively contributed over 104mn which is 34% of the days total turnover. Market heavyweight JKH was the top contributor pumping over 62.7mn which was supported by 2 block trades. The counters witnessed 2 blocks totaling 294,390 shares change hands at Rs.185. Banking sector heavyweight COMB also witnessed over half a million shares change hands at Rs.98.

Listed Multinational CTC was also among the top turnover contributors as over 41,000 shares change hands during the day. The counter saw a chunk of 35,000 shares change hands at Rs.700 and closed at Rs.699.90 gaining marginally. Diversified sector cap HHL witnessed high net worth interest along with SAMP whilst ACL witnessed some activity to trade over 137,000 shares.

Retail investors showed mixed sentiments during the day as most retail favourite caps continued to be volatile during the day. KAPI saw heavy volatility to trade between Rs.25.90 and Rs.29.40 and closed at Rs.26.10 shedding 7.12% for the day. Share price of SHAW continued to rose after the announcement specifying the sale of its land plot in the city of Colombo. The counter gained a healthy 8.76% and closed at Rs.296.60 after reaching an intraday high of Rs.304.50. Further, retail volumes were topped by FLCH,GLAS and HVA whilst CPRT emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.

Interesting. Out of the 28 point drop today, 23 are from CARS, BUKI, JKH, CHTR, LOLC.

කොළඹ කොටස් වෙළෙදපොළේ මිල දර්ශක ඊයේ (03) දිනයේ දී අවගමනයක් පෙන්නුම් කළා. සමස්ත දර්ශකය ඒකක 28.58කින් පහත වැටී දිනය අවසන දී 4931.47ක් ලෙස සටහන් වුණා. එය මිල දර්ශකයේ සියයට දශම 5ක පමණ පහත වැටීමක්. මිලංකා දර්ශකය ඒකක 14.91කින් පහත වැටුණු අතර, දිනය අවසනදී සටහන් වූයේ 4380.75ක් ලෙසයි. කොළඹ කොටස් වෙළෙදපොළේ ඊයේ (03) දිනයේ කොටස් මිලියන එකොළහමාරක් පමණ හුවමාරු වූ අතර මුළු පිරිවැටුම රුපියල් මිලියන 308ක්.
