More Heads of Corporations and public sector institutions reported to be corrupt were to be removed shortly, authoritative sources disclosed to The Nation.
The Nation learns that at least 10 Chairmen are to be removed from office in the coming weeks.
The Nation also learns that the hierarchy of the government had directed the relevant authorities to report corrupt chairmen ousted from office to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Bribery Commission.
Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed his ministers to appoint new chairmen when the present corrupt Heads are removed and to reconstitute all such Boards of Management in state institutions.
Petroleum Resources Minister Susil Premajayantha on Friday (10) requested the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to step down in the wake of the contaminated diesel scandal that caused controversy during the past two weeks. A new Chairman and Board of Directors took office immediately upon the removal of the former Chairman and the Board.
The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Chairman, Senior Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera has urged the government to bring a number of chairmen of state enterprises who were recently sacked following a Presidential directive for alleged corruption, before the Bribery Commission supported by an investigation by the CID.
The COPE has already probed 229 state institutions and Corporations and found corruption and financial irregularities in a majority of them.
