Aug 22, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse witnessed a positive days trading as both indices went on to gain healthy amounts to close in green. There was heavy investor activity compared to the past couple of days dominated by retail buying in specific counters and Institutional and High net worth interest in most of the blue chips. The benchmark index gained 82.27 points to close at 5,027 whilst the more liquid MPI gained almost 100 points to close at 4,693. Total turnover for the day was over 783mn. (Approximately USD 5.9 million) Total volume traded was over 45.9K.

Diversified conglomerate SPEN saw around 6 parcels totaling over 1.2mn shares change hands between Rs.110 and Rs.110.50. The counter emerged as the top contributor overtaking JKH. The counter pumped in a healthy 133mn towards the day’s turnover and closed the day at Rs.110.70 gaining Rs.1 for the day. Market heavyweight JKH continued to witness buying stemming mainly from foreign parties and traded a healthy volume of over 620,000 shares. The cap also witnessed a block trade where 2 blocks totaling 404,790 shares change hands at Rs.199.40. LLUB also witnessed a crossing to complete an exchange of 469,000 shares at Rs.180. The counter closed at Rs.181.90 gaining 6.26% for the day. CFIN also followed and witnessed a change of 193,000 shares at Rs.130 via a crossing.

Further, caps such as LOLC,CFLB and ACL also witnessed interest from Institutions as well as high net worth’s to trade material amounts for the day. The caps gained 2.76%,2.19% and 1.45% respectively.

Positive momentum continued on the retail favourites as there was active retail participation throughout the day. BIL spearheaded the retail run during the day as it emerged as the top traded counter trading over 4.4mn shares. The counter traded it’s quantities between Rs.2.90 and Rs.3.90 and closed the day at Rs.3.30 gaining an impressive 17.86%. EXPO also broke it’s resistance of Rs.6 and closed the day at Rs.6.30 trading over 2.6mn shares. LOFC also joined the penny cap rally and gained 12.12% to close at Rs.3.60.

Further, caps such as MULL,FLCH and ATL dominated trading volumes whilst SEMB.X emerged as the top gainer.
