Sept 12, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse bounced back after signs of profit taking during yesterday’s trading and today’s early hours. Retail activity continued on certain retail favourites whilst profit taking continued on the others. Notably aggressive accumulation was seen on the fundamentally sound blue chips showing a marked improvement in investor sentiments. The benchmark index shed a marginal 77.40 points to close at 5,668 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 88.82 points to close at 5,308. Total turnover for the day was over 1.2bn. (Approximately USD 9.1 million) Total volume traded was over 62.9K.

The only off the market deal was seen on Banking sector heavyweight SAMP as 200,000 shares changed hands at Rs.205. The counter contributed a total of 59mn towards the day’s turnover and closed the day at Rs.204.90 gaining marginally. Market heavyweight JKH emerged as the top contributor pumping over 150mn. The counter witnessed buying interest throughout the day from high net worth’s and Institutions and gained an impressive 3.4% to close at Rs.208.40. The counter also reached a high of Rs.210 during the day.

Retail favourite caps GREG and EAST dragged much retail interest during the day to trade attractive volumes. ERI traded over 4.7mn shares and contributed 83mn whilst EAST went on to contribute over 63mn trading over 2.9mn shares. GREG closed the day almost flat whilst EAST closed at Rs.20.70 after reaching an intraday high of Rs.22.30 during the early hours.

Retail investors were seen active throughout the day although mixed interest was witnessed overall. Caps such as HVA,DPL and REEF which traded aggressively during the past couple of days witnessed profit taking to close marginally down whilst new found interest was seen on caps such as KAPI,LGL and CIFL. Further, penny stocks such as CTBL,FLCH and SEMB.X topped trading volumes whilst debutant GSF emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.
