Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau will be the official tourism partner for ICC World Twenty20 tournament played in Sri Lanka from Sept 18 to October 20, under an agreement signed with the cricket body, ICC Development (International) Limited.
"[T]he two organizations will work together to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred travel and tourism destination among live spectators and billions of viewers who will be watching the series worldwide," SLTPB said.
Sri Lanka Tourism’s logo will be displayed on field positioned as mid-wicket ground logo in each match.
"The mid-wicket logo will provide much visibility to Sri Lanka country branding and with the added advantage of multiple views through live cast attracting audience’s attention to the country as a whole," the agency said.
Sri Lanka will also get sponsorship rights for tournament branding, event signage, stadia displays and video promotions during the match telecast. The value of the sponsorship deal was not disclosed.
Sri Lanka has seen a tourism boom since the end of a 30-year war in 2009, but the industry has been pressing for more active promotion.
