This time also HDFC, CARS, BUKI, and GUAR remained steady stable and reliable shares under pressure like in December. No wonder they have initiated a momentum. Financially sound PLCS and the share holders seem to be strong. While many other shares depreciating WAPO demonstrated gains. These are some of the observations made in December and March, Almost all other shares depreciated during March. I continue to depend on these shares during difficult periods.

A lot has been said on HDFC recently:

http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t2350-hdfc-upward-move-based-on-fundamentals-or-year-end-window-dressing
http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t895-hdfc-interim-report-released

- Perpetual Capital and LOLC together had 27.22% stake in HDFC at 31/12/2010
- Is takeover being considered? Government owned NHDA has 49.73% though, so cannot be a hostile bid
- Can it be argued that Perpetual and LOLC are acting in concert?
- Will mandatory offer be triggered if they hit 30%?

- HDFC is an illiquid share, and is easily manipulated by devious people
- Split speculation has been around for a very long time, but investors should remember splits create no real value
- Look at the valuations before investing
