Oct 16, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse saw both indices plunging owing to a heavy selling pressure on certain counters whilst overall activity also remained low. The benchmark index shed 45.67 points to close at 5,608 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 66.24 points to close at 5,094. Total turnover for the day was 515mn. (Approximately USD 4mn) Total volume traded was over 30.6K.

Two off the market deals were witnessed in CTC and DOCK which collectively amounted 14% of the total turnover. Multinational CTC saw 65,000 shares change hands at Rs.705 via a block trade whilst DOCK traded 112,000 shares at Rs.220. Healthcare sector cap ASIR also witnessed renewed interest during the last few hours of trading and witnessing some aggressive buying to emerge as the day’s top contributor. The counter traded over 4.9mn shares and closed the day at Rs.11.40 up by 3.64%.

Banking sector heavyweights such as NDB and SAMP witnessed heavy selling pressure during the day to reach of lows such as Rs.129 and Rs.197 respectively. Market heavyweight JKH witnessed the same sentiments along with VONE to close the day on a negative note. Retail activity remained low as selling continued on most of the retail favourites. DPL,KAPI and FLCH were the most affected during the as the counters shed 8.74%, 8.2% and 7.14% respectively. Further, retail volumes were topped by BLUE.X, BLUE.N and CSF whilst REG.R emerged as the top loser for the day.
