Oct 18, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse returned to the green territory after a short breather to post a comparatively higher turnover during the day. Few off the market deals coupled with much improved retail activity could be pointed out as the main reasons for the upturn. The benchmark index gained 38.92 points to close at 5,625 whilst the more liquid MPI also gained 74.39 points to close at 5,129. Total turnover for the day was 621mn. (Approximately USD 4.8mn) Total volume traded was over 22.3K.

2 off the market deals weighing over 40% of the market turnover also helped to post a comparatively higher turnover during the day. Market heavyweight was dominant during the day’s trading and witnessed 2 blocks totaling 900,251 shares change hands at Rs.205. Leisure sector cap HUNA also witnessed a block trade where 899,000 shares change hands at Rs.65. LLUB saw renewed activity during the day and witnessed over 100K shares change hands between Rs.192 and Rs.195. The counter gained 2.04% to close the day at Rs.195. DIST and DOCK continued to see Institutional accumulation to trade attractive volumes. NEST and NAMU also followed and witnessed decent chunks being collected by investors. Retail activity saw a turnaround as most retail caps witnessed buying interest from investors. LHCL and CSF spearheaded the retail rally and traded impressive volumes to gain 5.69% and 5.56% respectively. REEF also displayed volatility during the day to trade between Rs.28.20 and Rs.30.60 and closed the day at Rs.29.90 gaining 2.04%. Further, retail volumes were topped by FLCH,BLUE.X and LOFC whilst SEMB.X emerged as the top gainer.
