November 02, 2012 (LBO) – Sri Lanka stocks closed up 0.69 percent Friday with several blue chips and banks gaining ground.

The Colombo All Share Index closed at 5,532.32 up 37.78 points and the S & P SL 20 Index closed 23.80 points higher at 2997.95 up 0.80 percent.

Turnover was a relative high at 1,305, 245 million rupees. Leading contributors to turnover were JKH with 578 million rupees, Environment Resources Holdings with 349 million rupees.

Aitken Spence PLC gained 0.20 cents to close at 127.00 rupees up 0.16 percent.

AVIVA NDB Insurance PLC closed 3.00 rupees higher to close at 365.00 rupees up 0.83 percent.

Commercial Bank gained 0.20 cents to close at 103.10 rupees up 0.19 percent. DFCC Bank dropped 0.80 cents to close at 106.00 rupees down 0.75 percent.

Hatton National Bank PLC gained 4.50 rupees to close at 145.30 rupees up 3.20 percent. Sampath Bank PLC gained 5.80 rupees to close at 199.30 rupees up 3.00 percent.

Environmental Resources Investments PLC gained 0.50 cents to close at 15.30 rupees up 3.38 percent.

Dialog Axiata PLC slipped 0.10 cents to close at 8.10 rupees down 1.22 percent.

Index heavy John Keells Holdings PLC gained 3.20 rupees to close at 209.70 rupees up 1.55 percent.

Nov 02, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse took a turnaround during mid day, on the back of presumed foreign buying on selected counters to end the week on a positive note .Turnover was strengthened by few block trades which contributed almost 89% of the day’s turnover. The benchmark index gained 37.78 points to close at 5,532 whilst the more liquid MPI gained 55.07 points to close at 5,031. Total turnover for the day was 1.3bn. (Approximately USD 10mn) Total volume traded was over 82.8K.

3 block trades were seen on Market heavyweight JKH which changed the overall complexion of the bourse. The counter witnessed 3 different blocks totaling 2,689,172 shares change hands at Rs.210. The counter gained an impressive 2.66% for the day and closed the week at Rs.209.70. Speculative cap GREG also witnessed the following block trades.

GREG.W003 23,002,510 @ 4.6

BREW also traded a block of 48,881 shares at Rs.440. Further caps such as LOLC,NDB and AHPL traded decent volumes mainly on the back of Institutional interest and contributed material amounts towards the day’s turnover. Retail activity was again low although a mini – rally was seen during the last hour on selected counters. MASK.R traded the top volume on the back of heavy retail interest and closed the day at Rs.1.50 after reaching an intraday high of Rs.2.20. LGL.X also witnessed some retail buying along with ECL to end the week marginally up. Further, caps such as SEMB.X,FLCH and ATL traded impressive volumes whilst MASK.R emerged as the top gainer.
