The chairman of Bank of Ceylon Dr. Gamini Wickremasinghe has reportedly tendered his resignation, official sources said.

According to sources, Dr. Wickramasinghe’s request to resign from his post as the BoC Chairman has been accepted by the President. However, he is to continue his duties until end of this year. A new Chairman is due to be appointed once the President returns to Sri Lanka from his official visit to Kazakhstan.

Few weeks ago I read an article on a paper saying that a head of a government bank recruit the most suitable candidates for some managerial (trainee) positions.
Apparently he ignored the political letters & made the prince of Sri Lanka upset. This could be the ultimate result of that.

Feel sorry for Dr Wickremasinghe.

Having a backbone is not a plus point in a politically corrupted country it seems (always).

Boys before feeling pity for this guy lets see the connection of this good doctor.

Gamini Wickramasinghe is the brother of Jayantha Wickramasinghe CEO, Lanka Logistics. This company is responsible most arms purchases to the Sri Lankan army. His brother in law is President's sister's husband.

Therefore not the innocent type. All are well connected otherwise no chance of getting a position like this. He will get some other high post as a punishment for the altercation with Namal while another relation of some sort will get this position.

If Dr GW had to resign due to this political matter, the responsible people has to be ashamed . We have seen how BoC grew under Dr GW. I do not know the internal connections with these parties. But seriously if we want to make this the wonder of Asia the responsible parties need to think twice and act ethically.

Is Sri Lanka always that bad? I've heard that DS school founder got removed decades ago when the now opposition leader was the education minister or something and when he wanted to get some students into school. Feels good knowing I'm not part of that country.

Chairman BOC, Gamini Wickramasinghe has resigned from post of chairman. The resignation forwarded to the Minister off Finance, has been accepted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Director BOC, R. Sivaraman has been appointed acting Chairman.
