Govt has earned nearly Rs.1 billion from Expressway

The government earns Rs. 83-85 million in revenue monthly from the Southern Expressway, Deputy Minister of Ports and Highways, Nirmala Kothalawala said today.

Around 283,000 vehicles travel on the Southern Expressway each month, the deputy minister said responding to a query by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake in Parliament.

He further added that the expressway has gained an income of approximately Rs. 950 million since its opening to the public, on November 27 last year.

WOW it is great.......
Seems they can maintain it with out any burden tot he budget.
the cost was around 90 b rupee

if we add the social benefits gain this cost is nothing...........

These kinda developments are in need.. Rather than burdening the common ppl imposing this and that tax, taxing a special service like this is understandable to all.

Recently I traveled abt 35 kms just to show the highway to my family members and it took me ard 30 mins @ a speed varied from 60-90 kmph. But I saw damages due to accidents have not yet been repaired which was not a good sign. Govt should repair these using the money they earn from highway and claim it from the person who damaged it later. All of the vehicles have 3rd party insurance hence this would not be a problem imo.

Hope these earnings will not go someone's pocked and any damages would be repaired immediately using this money..

The highway net work seems Very good.

Now the Kottawa / Makubura interchange is almost finished and it looks so complicated, Cant understand where those all the roads heading to.

How ever, according to the time they consumed, seem gov. is in a big hurry to complete the entire net work on the time.

Colombo outer circular road will connect Southern , Kandy and the Katunayake expressways.. out of these Outer circular and Katunayake roads will be completed in near future.

Really i cant believe They do it. Even with these crap bribery procedures, some how those are being completed.

Colombo outer circle road is the only solution to control the traffic Jam. And almost Nugegoda and Maharagama Morning and evening traffic Jam is 100% controlled. Now u can pass the Nugegoda at 50 KMPH for sure at any time.

Kottawa to Awissawella construction also already begun from Makubura interchange...........Every where u can see good roads.

1) War is done.
2) Infrastructure improving.

Next what we need to develop the country........

- Good governance - Quite long term...lets think about it after $6000 Per capita income
- Business oriented policy changes - From this/ next budget
- Education - Any way good for me
- Some how control the imports - at the movement it is good.

Just my thoughts...
