It is very interesting to see that the domestic purchases exceeds its disposal after a long time. Is it the reason for that the market is oversold territory?

The Colombo bourse yesterday closed virtually flat, holding its ground on the previous day’s gains, with the All Share Price Index up a fraction of a point (zero percent), the Milanka down 5.63 points (0.11%) and S&P up 1.77 points (0.06%) with 123 gainers comfortably ahead of 64 losers while 124 counters closed flat.

Foreign sales amounted to Rs. 23.68 million, resulting in a net outflow of Rs. 11.03 million.

Brokers said that the indices were up during early trading but activity was subdued apart from two block trades in Seylan Bank (non-voting) where slightly over 1.1 million shares were traded at Rs.35 in a deal valued at Rs.39.8 million and 2.5 million Citrus Leisure crossed at Rs.35 with a transaction value of Rs.87.5 million.

" The indices ended on a mixed note, with the ASPI ending marginally higher amidst subdued activity levels. Crossings on SEYB and REEF collectively accounted for 48% of market turnover," John Keells Stockbrokers said.

The top turnover generator on the floor was People’s Leasing Company closing 50 cents up at Rs.13.30 with over 0.9 million shares done between Rs.12.80 and Rs.13.40 contributing Rs.20.8 million to turnover followed by HNB (non-voting) closing Rs.2 up at Rs.109.50 on nearly 0.9 million shares done between Rs.108 and Rs.109.50 generating a turnover of Rs.9.2 million.

Seylan (non-voting) closed at Rs.35 with 0.2 million shares done on the floor between Rs.35 and Rs.35.10 while Commercial Bank (voting) closed 10 cents up at Rs.100 on 64,309 shares done between Rs.99.60 and Rs.100 contributing Rs.6.4 million to turnover.

JKH edged down 70 cents to close at Rs.210 on 30,385 shares done between Rs.209 and Rs.212 with a business volume worth Rs.6.4 million.

Other stocks that showed some quantity in a day where business was slack included Kahawatte Plantations closing Rs.1.20 up at Rs.33.50 on nearly 0.2 million shares, HNB (voting) closing flat at Rs.141 on 37,315 shares and Tokyo (non-voting) closing 10 cents down at Rs.19.40 on nearly 0.3 million shares.

Ceylon Tobacco was up Rs.3.80 to close at Rs.311 on 4,743 shares, NTB closed flat at Rs.52.50 on 61,108 shares and Malwatte Valley closed 30 cents down at Rs.4.30 on nearly 0.5 million shares.
