Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene says that steps should be taken at least by next year to formulate a strong constitution which prioritises the needs of the country.
He made this statement during a function held in the Deniyaya area.
A special function organised by the Southern Province Ministry of Tourism was held at the Deniyaya national school on Thursday.
The event was graced by Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene and Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene.
".. They are attempting to take this impeachment motion into various directions. What I cannot believe is that the learned community in the country have become involved in this. Whether it is being done knowingly or unknowingly, it is a great conspiracy.''
''We need to see if they are attempting to create a legal trap through which no government will be able to act. I believe that this absurd constitution should be torn apart and a new one should be formed. I believe steps should be taken to form a new constitution which focusses on national unity and will ensure the development of the country in 2013 .." stated Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene
''As a country with a proud history, we have been blessed with many natural resources. As a government we need to develop these resources. What we hope to do is to create a situation where one in every seven individuals relies on the tourism industry, by the year 2016 .." added Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene.
