The Motor Traffic Department has registered 30,000 vehicles in January this year, according to the Commissioner General.
The vehicle registrations dropped sharply last year after the government raised the taxes for vehicle imports to curb the increasing trade deficit and fuel expenditure.
The number of vehicles registered in the first eleven months of last year dropped by 22.7 percent when compared to the same period in 2011. In November alone, new vehicle registrations declined 45 percent, according to the Central Bank.
