Foreign investors can be extremely naive at times. You may not know this but a lot of foreign investors lose money in SL - esp when they go to set up local hotels, resorts etc.

I remember a story when a Californean fund (won't mention the name) visited SL to invest in a few Companies - they thought LTTE was a company.

Are you serious? If so, it cannot be a real fund. May be a 'Maranadara Samithi' fund in rural village in California Smile

Well the picture of SL as it was portrait in the international level was a distorted one in pre-war era due to LTTE campaigns. We cannot deny that they were actively engage in defaming SL in the countries where LTTE was not banned.
The left alone supporters of LTTE still to-day try to defame SL's name as much as possible.

On the otherhand, what Geneva knows abt SL is also the same imo. US violates human rights in big time but stop at nothing to peep into other's businesses and criticize.

In addition, this take over laws of SL also make the foreigners fear to invest in SL imo..

Despite all of these issues, however, still many foreign funds come to SL. Larger scale hotel projects were started so we have less to fear.

yea you may right that is why i mentioned we have major roll ("we" mean Gov. Opo and General Public and ....all communities)

The above story is true. The name of the fund begins with B and they are based in California - those who know, know. They invested in a few firms like DIST. At the time we used to laugh about this guy but he did make a profit in the end.

The point is foreigners do not do enough research and hence end up getting their fingers burnt. For example Ruffers invested in the power sector - problem was those power plants have low capacity in a industry where prices are artificially low.
