Scheme to build over 600 kilometres of roads- under a 500 dollar loan scheme from commercial banks under Treasury guarantee
Long term loan: HNB IN FEB : the loan will be repaid over 14.5-years with 2.5-year grace, at the rate of AWPLR +1.5%

18 kilometre road - The road runs from Meepe to Ingiriya
LKR 1,802 million

HNB March :
27 kilometre stretch - Haputale, Boralanda
LKR 2,445 million

HNB FEB
LKR 3.2 billion long-term loan to finance the rebuilding of 37.5 kilometres
Road sections: 33.50 to 44.0 kilometres
57 to 59 kilometres on the Naula - Elahara - Laggala - Pallegama - Hettipola Road (B 312)
Road Sections :20 to 45 kilometre stretch on Hasalaka Handungamuwa Road (B484).

I guess banks will step in constructing houses for people, if guarantee scheme is well placed to secure investment capital. In fact, constructive negotiation is needed for such schemes at higher level to build up the confidence of banking sector to be involved in.

Its good initiative, but have to come to realistic terms regarding profit margins.

The incredible truth about chinese loans with strings attached is, the project cost is around three times the actual cost. It's sheer lunacy.
