I think a good Investor should have long term, medium term and short term shares in portfolio.

correct, better to rotate your investment when things going bad in particular share,...
but normally i try to decide sell shares whenever it gave me more than 30%-50% return, because i may get a chance to buy back later at a lower price, and also it will be better to safe booking profits......
*some shares will be gems in some period, and also they will be bad in some period.....if you can identify the time, then you are the winner........
*no share would be bad for long,it will take it time to rise from dust.... Cool

Some people believe that we cannt sell shares for a loss. Personally I dont think there is such thing. But selling shares at a loss should not be happening regularly.
In my past I had to sell some shares at a loss but overall it was not a bad experience.

i also sold some shares at loss, but when i look back i realized that i made the right decision..
sometimes it's better to sell off loss making shares and invest in some other good counters(if your existing shares are not worth at current levels or if those companies start to incur issues).....

having losses is an experience, learn from them...........
