"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of the following members of the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect," a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said naming the DMK representatives in the Union ministry.
M K Alagiri, Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers, S S Palanimanickam, Minister of State for Finance, S Gandhiselvan, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, S Jagathrakshakan, Minister of State or Commerce and Industry and D Nepoleon, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, had submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday.
The DMK Ministers put in their papers after DMK withdrew support to the UPA government over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
Meanwhile, Parliament was adjourned till 2pm today following uproar triggered by members over a host of issues including the India's vote on a UN resolution against Sri Lanka and demand for separate Telangana.
DMK, AIADMK and CPI members trooped into the Well of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha raising slogans over the plight of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.
AIADMK members led by their leader in the House V Maitreyan trooped into the Well carrying posters of slain LTTE chief Prabhakaran's son, who was allegedly shot dead by the Sri Lankan army.
Their rivals in Tamil Nadu, DMK members also joined the slogan shouting. TMC members too moved into aisles shouting slogans but were inaudible in the din. Chairman Hamid Ansari pleaded with members to go back to their places and allow Question Hour to proceed. But none heeded to his request, forcing him to adjourn the House till noon. (Indian Express)
