when i was new-when i told my advisor to buy or sell,he tells me the ask price and bid price, then normally i tell him to put orders at current ask price or current bid price, then i'm sure the trade was done.........but there was times i send the e-mail stating the placing price,so at such times he send me a e-mail whenever orders filled....

your broker may put orders at different prices and orders may not filled....

Thanks pal I was already in that system! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! but there are some things i don't know! Very Happy

well for a start, don't worry about them.
what you have to do when buying is enter a quantity and the maximum price that you would like to pay for it.
if no sell orders are there for that price, then your order will go to the order book and will wait till someone sells at that price. This is the 'limit' option
alternatively you can buy for whatever lowest ask price at that time. (market price)
Grate Thanks a lot!

There are stockbroking firms that give wrong advice and take advantage of small investors like you and me - as in the example above. I believe it would be a good idea to name (and shame) such brokers on public forums like this one.

Naming such 'bad' brokers would achieve 2 things:
1. It would caution other investors against them and
2. Make the brokers improve their services - hopefully.

What do you think?

For some far! It's very irritating when the adviser does not do the things as we instructed! Neutral scratch

As Mark pointed out, keeping a clean bill with broker is a wise move.. We never know that we might need the advisors support someday.. If ur applying for right issues, etc.. we need his support..

So its better u talk to him once in awhile and ask him what are the good shares and even ask him whether some of ur shares are good and stuff like that..
Call after 3.0 p.m. for these kinda things and maintain a healthy relationship..

Yes i agree with you that we should maintain a healthy relationship with the brokers, because sometimes they have much more information than we are having it may be due to their own research team or due to contacts etc, but here the issue is 3 times the broker failed to entertain the client, sometimes when i requested my broker to buy particular share at particular price, but if he is not happy with the price i stated he will call back and say due to these reasons he is not happy with the share i mentioned or the price i quoted and whether i want to stick to the order if yes he will put it.

Yes after trading hours was the best time to speak to him

Gaja, thats the relationship u've built with your advisor.. cheers!! we all would look forward to a similar kinda service.. Probably u might be a long term customer with a sound portfolio they dont want to lose, might as a well ur rapport seems very high with them..

For newbies with less money and less knowledge, brokers dont care much, I realize this when I was a newbie too.. I changed one broker cuz of the losses I made buying shares for the ask price Wink After wards I do only online trading on my own..

Also in this scenario, the guy is new, may be a small portfolio so broker may be fooling around. . nevertheless, we have to keep a good relationship with him as u even pointed out Wink
Since Kasun has the online facility he could buy/sell on his own now .. Very Happy
