Sri Lanka’s March tea production rose 11.3 percent from a year earlier due to favourable weather, pushing up output of the island nation’s top agricultural export by 8.1 percent in the first quarter of 2013, data from the state-run Tea Board showed on Thursday.

Monthly year-on-year output has gained in the past four months, helped by favourable weather. Production in 2012 edged down 0.4 percent from the year earlier due to adverse weather conditions.

Tea is one of the main foreign currency earners for the island nation’s $59 billion economy.

March is will great for most plantation related companies.

But June will take a hit. ( some in Dec) . Then depending on global prices a recovery maybe made.

Now its for the companies to deliver at least 50% dividends on EPS...i think investors too should have an agreement similar to workers Smile

Will extra expenses , I doubt many companies will go for 50% dividend.

Even KVAL declated around 30% though it is a consistent high dividend rather diversified company.

BTw, KGAL/NAMU is late.

Technically KOTA.N can move either way. My feeling is that Buyers are moving in to collect @ 50-55. If the favourable trend continues ...This should make head way towards 70-80Rs. with possible break out to touch 110 in the long run. target derived from the width of the Horizontal Lines. (Ranging 50-75) since 2012.

I am sure one party (Buyer or Seller) will loose interst and allow the other to take over.

cheers

I am holding small qty.

There are different types of Teas and different types of seasons for each. High March production points to the Dambulla harvest Wink

Ceylon

The tea of present-day Sri Lanka is called traditionally by the old country name Ceylon. At around 60 % of its net export profits, tea is the most important export of Sri Lanka, a land of mild, subtropical climate and diverse vegetation. The most important tea-growing areas are located in the central highlands. Ceylon tea is divided into three categories: Low grown tea that grows under 650 meters, medium grown tea that grows between 650 and 1300 meters, and high grown tea that grows between 1300 and 2500 meters.

There are three tea districts in the central highlands around Adam’s Peak: Uva in the east, Dimbula in the west, and Nuwara-Eliya in between. Monsoon and passat winds determine the periods of quality. In the Uva district the best full, strong, tangy teas grow between June and September. In the Dambula district the teas containing less tannin are harvested between December and March and have a softer, lighter cup than the Uva tea. In the Nuwara-Eliya district good-quality tea is harvested all year round. This tea tastes similar to that of Dimbula and has a typical lemon bouquet. In the highlands more than 90% of tea production is processed as broken tea. For this reason one finds excellent Ceylon broken tea quite often, but good Ceylon leaf tea less frequently
