Dear Friends..

Some of my shares have appreciated with the run. At the same time some have declared dividends. Some have the potential for dividend in the next couple of weeks. I might lose the capital gain if I wait for the dividend. So my worry is whether to wait for the dividend and exit or exit with the capital gain???
What are your policy???? Is there a normal practice for such a situation???

Thanks...

Exit with capital gains when the didvidend announcements are made with your short term investments (if the announced amount will be less than the gained amount when you want to exit).
Enjoy the gains and the dividend both with your mid and long term, investments.
That is what I have been doing and quite successful with it.
Wish to hear from others too.

Agree with Sasanka De Silva.
I keep my mid-long term investments, but most likely sell other shares..

Normally get exit the day befr the XD may give more profit- be caution about mkt condition...

This was true before. But we recently saw that several shares jumping back the XD price or higher.

COMB,NDB, JINS, HNB to name a few.

TPL, KVAL dipped but did not jump back up yet.

So yes , we need to study the shares we hold and the market situation to decide to sell before XD or not.

If one a holds strong company with good earnings, and if one believe in further market appreciation with time ( not short term) then selling early might be not wise.
