May 19, 2013 (LBT) - Converting a shipping container into a Hybrid House is becoming the latest trends in modular housing in Sri Lanka. While Hybrid Homes are environmentally sustainable and ideal for green living, the designs and floor plans are incredibly creative and are considered attractive and stylish by even the most discerning of home owners.

"We are in the business of providing dream lifestyles that inspire people" said the Managing Director of Hybrid Homes (pvt) Limited, Mr Dharshana Fernando. "We have received considerable amount of orders from potential home owners and currently in the process of manufacturing and delivering the first batch of Hybrid Home units. We have already taken steps to double our production capacity to meet the increased customer demand" Mr Fernando further added.

Imran Jabeer I was told that the living spaces in such homes would be very small compared to conventional homes. Is there any truth in this?

Hybrid Homes Containers can be combined to give desired space you want. Eg.. 20' x 16' room can be made by combing two 20' feet containers. Containers are the main building block of your Hybrid House and you could make any combination of your choice to meet with your desired space requirement and style.

Chris Siriwardena I live near the beach...so can this withstand a tsunami....we saw what happened to the train at paraliya in srilanka..

Hybrid Homes Containers are made to float in the event of a disaster so that cargo can be removed. So in the event of a Tsunami the occupant of a Hybrid House that is made from a container will be secured than a conventional house and have better chance of survival.

Chris Siriwardena I am really touched the way your company has responded to all these queries...it really goes to show how concern and genuine they are with this product ...which most of the other companies are lacking these days...one last question if I may permitted to do so...a container with cargo with all sides sealed will definitely float...but a house made out of this material with doors/windows opened at the time of disaster ...just like in the train incident...there were no survivors....? And there were no conventional type of houses that resisted this type of force...

Hybrid Homes Yes, too many door and windows will make the water seep through. The side corrugation panels of the containers are strong enough to resist any crash of waves against it. Also Hybrid homes are generally not fastened to the ground like a conventional house. This is is done for the purpose of mobility, but would become useful in the event of a Tsunami, cause it will make the container float immediately. Unlike in case of the Train. Further the containers are made to float with the door opening towards the sky. Therefore when designing, we could make door and windows in a such a way that would minimize the Tsunami risk. I am sure sure your next question is about how safe it during lightning. Just do a wikipedia search for the word 'Faraday Cage'. Container during lightning will act as a faraday cage and will be the safest place to be. Please feel free to visit our model house in mount Lavinia. Chris Siriwardena O boy!..Some companies do talk about an after sales service....they better take cue from Hybrid Homes as to how a customer is serviced at the very early stage...hats off to your company...it was a pleasure....
You have convinced me well and truely...give me a little time to decide ok...and I will get in touch...btw,....my next question was not about lightning...just wondered if its made to float...for how long it will float....can I guide it towards usa...or maybe to australia??you dont hv to answer this ok..anyway...thankyou very much...

Hybrid Homes Containers are corrosion free and made to sustain in extremely hostile weather and environment conditions. ISO standard for shipping containers confirms more than 20 years of life time. We assure the same warranty subject to maintenance agreement being signed with us.

Malshan Patabendige What about the guarantee period for a hybrid house. As the containers are made up of steel, what about the special protections you can offer to protect the hybrid house from corrosion?
How many years can it persist without any corrosion?

Thanks.
