June 10, 2013 (LBT) - Bourse traded flat on a green-zone: Bourse traded on a green territory today however on a flat note in most part of the day. In the morning session the ASPI witnessed an upsurge and remained flat at green levels. At the end of the day ASPI settled at 6,341.28 with a gain of 34 points. Gains recorded on John Keells Holdings (+2.9%), Ceylon Tobacco Company (+3.1%) and DFCC Bank (3.4%) weighted positively on the overall index performance. The S&P SL20 also ended on a green note with a gain of 24 points at 3,574.45.

Cargills spearheads the daily turnover: Turnover was heavily dominated by Cargills supported by two crossings which carried a total of 1.6mn shares at a price of LKR180.0. John Keells Holdings also recorded two off-board transactions amounting to 186k shares which were transacted at LKR270.0. The counter closed on-board at LKR272.8, with a gain of 2.9%. Ceylon Tobacco Company witnessed some off-board interest with a single crossing of 25k shares at LKR980.0.

Nation Lanka Finance and Distilleries attracts heavy on-board interest: Nation Lanka Finance demonstrated heavy on-board interest today. The counter carried three large on-board transactions of 6.6mn at prices of LKR11.9-12.0 before ending the day flat at LKR11.40. Distilleries too had significant on-board interest backed up by a single on-board trade of 100k shares which was transacted at LKR195.0. DIST closed the day at LKR195.7 with a marginal gain of 0.3%.Retail activity was dormant: Retail activity was seen in some selected stocks such as Nation Lanka Finance, Laugfs Gas Non-Voting and Kelsey Developments.

Colombo stocks regained some lost ground today after the main index weakened by 155.63 points (-2.4%) during last five trading days. ASI advanced by 33.85 index points (+0.54%) today to close at 6,341.28 and S&P SL 20 Index gained 23.98 points (+0.68%) to close at 3,574.45.

Market turnover was LKR 826.8mn. Cargills Ceylon with LKR 295mn, Nation Lanka Finance with LKR 117mn and John Keells Holdings with LKR 75mn topped the turnover list. Cargills Ceylon (1.63mn shares at LKR 180), John Keells Holdings (0.19mn shares at LKR 270) and Ceylon Tobacco (25,000 shares at LKR 980) reported crossings during the day and the total value of the crossings accounted for 45% of the total turnover.

Nation Lanka Finance voting share and warrant 21, Laugfs Gas non-voting and John Keells Holdings were the heavily traded stocks. However Nation Lanka Finance warrant-21 (down by 17%) and Laugfs Gas non-voting (down by 10%) were among the top losers for the day amid the cut-off date of the warrant falling on this week and Ex-dividend today respectively.

Foreign participation was 35% and the foreign investors were net buyers with net inflow of LKR 358mn. LKR 259mn worth of shares of Cargills Ceylon was bought by foreign investors.

Cash map closed at 52.7%.
